Beware of Companies Not Related to Affiliate Meet Markt

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS

Unfortunately, exhibitors and attendees to major exhibitions and conferences are sometimes targeted by fraudsters to obtain money.  We work very closely with Association of Exhibition Organisers to identify these scams and we always communicate these to our customers. Below are details of the known scams. Please be aware of these if you are contacted by any other organisation  in relation to any of our events:

Email Lists:

Recently, exhibiting companies are also being contacted by fictitious companies who claim to be able to supply mailing lists of show attendees. These individuals (many of whom are sending emails from untraceable Hotmail and from fictitious company addresses) are committing fraud.

The Clarion Events Group is the owner of all data in relation to our events and NEVER sells any of its data. If you receive such unsolicited offers, please do not respond as these offers have not been authorised by Clarion.

We will take the strongest action against any such illegal activity including reporting these fraudsters to the police and, where appropriate, issuing Court proceedings.

Show Guides:

The official Show guides of Affiliate Meet Markt have previously been produced in partnership with EventGuidesLTD.

In recent years, third parties such as Expo Guides, Fairguide, Construct Data Verlag and others have been targeting exhibitors at major exhibitions for paid entries into show guides. These companies are NOT in any way affiliated with Affiliate Meet Markt  and they are NOT working on our behalf.

These companies use a misleading form, often with the show logo, which resembles an organiser’s free catalogue entry form. Exhibitors who sign and return the form for an entry in an online directory are contracted into a three-year, "non-retractable" agreement. Non-payment is then followed by aggressive debt collecting by recovery agents, including threats of legal action.

We strongly advise all exhibitors to be vigilant against organisations such as these. Please be aware and read the small print details before signing any documents. Please contact us if you require any clarification.

If you have been caught out, the current advice from the AEO (Association of Exhibition Organisers) is as follows:

1) DO NOT PAY ANYTHING

2) IGNORE THEM COMPLETELY - do not communicate with them in any way, even if they threaten legal action. Writing letters simply confirms that you exist and are available at the address/email address/number they have for you, and encouraging them to pursue payment

3) Report it to your local trading standards

4) Keep a log of all correspondence and contact from them

Optional: Complain to the receiving bank that their client Expo Guide (or other as applicable) is obtaining money by deception.

Hotel Room Bookings:

You may be contacted by some external companies which purport to offer discounted hotel rates for attendees. Please note that these are not supported by Clarion Events and are a scam. Please be advised that genuine rates are detailed only in communications received directly from Clarion Events and we therefore encourage you to contact us should you be approached by any external organisations.

TO BE CLEAR, AFFILIATE MEET MARKT DOES NOT RENT, SHARE OR SELL YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION TO ANY THIRD PARTIES

It has been brought to our attention that there are multiple companies contacting Affiliate Meet Markt attendees (both past and currently registered), claiming to represent Affiliate Meet Markt (and/or leaving out important information so that it’s ambiguous whether they represent Affiliate Meet Markt or not), offering various services related to attending or exhibiting at Affiliate Meet Markt .

Housing Pirates and Room Poachers Scam

When Affiliate Meet Markt secures sleeping rooms at hotels for our conferences (commonly referred to as room blocks), we research the properties to make certain that our attendees and exhibitors are adequately accommodated. These room blocks are established to ensure that rooms meet our standards and are offered at a discounted price. Affiliate Meet Markt works directly with host hotel for each conference.

Room poaching is a practice carried out by third-party companies that act as travel agencies, wholesalers or destination management companies to solicit registrants and exhibitors for room reservations.

Often room poachers may misrepresent themselves as Affiliate Meet Markt ’s official housing provider, and registrants and exhibitors may be contacted by fax, email or phone with offers for discounted housing. They may even send out emails, forms and promotional materials that appear to be issued by Affiliate Meet Markt and may even include illegal use of our logo. Many times, room poachers even go as far as stating that the “hotel room block is sold out” and if you do not book with them immediately, you may not get a room.

While the allure of saving a few bucks per night is tempting, many have not read the fine print of the housing poacher’s contracts which include pre-payment of the stay and substantial penalties for changes and cancellations. Sadly, some room poachers don’t even follow through on making the reservations with the hotel, leaving customers stranded without a room when they arrive at the hotel.

Don’t be misled! Affiliate Meet Markt does not contact our attendees to book rooms. If you do receive a solicitation, please get as much information as you can and pass it along to us at support@affiliatemeetmarkt.com

The following  is a list of Housing Pirates and Poachers that we have been made aware of:

  • Convention Hotel Management: housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • eHotelers: housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • Exhibition Housing Services: housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • Exhibition Housing Management / Exhibitor Housing Management (aka EHM): housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • Exhibitors Hotel Reservations Services: housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • Exhibitors Housing Services: housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • Trade Show Housing (tshousing.com): housing company offering pre-paid hotel reservations with added booking fees and significant cancellation/change penalties.
  • Corporate Booking Services - CBS International
  • Global Elite Travel - claiming to have discounted rooms at various Las Vegas hotels.

Exhibitor Services Poachers

Similar to Room Poaching, Exhibitor Services Poaching is a practice carried out by third-party companies that solicit registrants and exhibitors for audio/visual services, booth furniture, telecom, printing services, etc.

Please be advised that in conjunction with rules and regulations of the host hotel and acting in the best interests of the exhibitors, attendees and event venue, we have appointed GES as our Official Service Provider to perform and provide necessary services and equipment.

The role of the Official Service Provider is to:

  • Ensure the orderly and efficient installation and removal of the overall exposition.
  • Assure the distribution of labor to all Exhibitors according to need,
  • Provide sufficient labor to satisfy the requirements of Exhibitors and for the exposition itself.
  • See that the proper type and limits of insurance are in force.
  • Avoid any conflict with the local union and exhibit hall regulations and requirements.

The Official Service Providers will provide all usual trade show services, including labor.  Exceptions are:

  • Supervision may be provided by the Exhibitor.
  • The Exhibitor may appoint an independent exhibit installation contractor or display builder.

The following is a list of exhibitor services poachers that we’ve been made aware of. They may not even be allowed to conduct business at the host hotel:

  • All States Shipping, LLC: sending unsolicited bulk emails to attending companies with their service offerings.
  • AVRexpos: Sending unsolicited emails to attending companies with their AV service offerings.
  • GSE Audio Visual (aka GSEAV): Spamming attendees with an email that claims they are providing A/V & Meeting Room Services for us again. They’re lying. We’ve never had a relationship with them and at this point, we would never.
  • MTSE Audio Visual (MTSEAV.com): spamming past attendees with their offerings through a deceptive email making it appear as though they have worked with Affiliate Meet Markt and/or the customer previously. They are not an authorized vendor.
  • SkyVision: Sending unsolicited emails to attending companies/attendees with their AV service offerings (including display screens, audio sound systems, projectors and desktops/laptops).

If you do receive a solicitation, please get as much information as you can and pass it along to us at support@affiliatemeetmarkt.com
